50-70 percent of police positions in four Afghan provinces are ghost soldiers: SIGAR

Between 50 and 70 percent of police positions in four Afghan provinces are not active, valid personnel, but ghost soldiers, according to a new US watchdog report has said. According to the report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, the assessment was jointly made by Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry and the National Directorate of Security. The provinces cited in the report were Kandahar, Zabul, Helmand and Uruzgan.
